Department Head, Tourism and Business

About the role

Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq is looking for an independent, results-driven department head who can set direction, gather people and deliver concrete results through their team and in close cooperation with business. The role covers the business and tourism effort across the whole municipality, including Visit Nuuk, Visit Paamiut and Destination East Greenland.

Key responsibilities

• Lead seven employees, set clear direction and priorities, and give them responsibility and room for initiative
• Build and maintain close relations with businesses across the municipality and facilitate business forums and networking meetings
• Take overall leadership responsibility for Visit Nuuk, Visit Paamiut and Destination East Greenland
• Strengthen conditions for business, including maritime, fishing and hunting, and develop links between tourism and other sectors
• Ensure qualified political support with clear case presentations and follow-up, and advance projects and partnerships

Required profile

• Solid management experience and proven ability to take responsibility and act on ideas
• Experience in business development and/or tourism
• Strong network builder who can build trust and bring different interests together
• Works independently, prioritises sharply and keeps momentum going
• Understands the relationship between politics and administration and communicates clearly in writing and speech
• Understanding of Greenlandic social conditions and local differences; bilingual in Greenlandic and Danish is an advantage but not required
