Controller – Budget Department (Culture, Schools & Preschools)

About the role

The position is a central role in the Budget Department, supporting the financial management of the Culture, Schools and Preschools area. You will work closely with managers, institutions and the central finance function to ensure accurate budgeting, reporting and control.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and monitor budgets for schools, cultural institutions and preschools.
• Provide financial advice and sparring to managers and the administration.
• Develop analyses, forecasts and management information.
• Track expenditures, grants and accounting entries.
• Contribute to the optimisation of work‑flows and financial processes.
• Ensure compliance with legislation and municipal guidelines.
• Handle budget‑related case work and update financial procedures.
• Control adherence to financial management rules and budget planning.
• Follow up on audit reports and produce key financial indicators.
• Advise leadership on budgetary matters in collaboration with the area director.

Required profile

• Relevant higher education in economics or finance (e.g., Financial Controller, HD, bachelor/master).
• 2–3 years of experience in financial management, controlling, accounting or budget follow‑up.
• Documented experience with budgeting, reporting and controlling, preferably in the public sector.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work in a politically led organisation.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel competence.
• Experience with economic/financial systems.
• Knowledge of PowerBI, data validation and analysis tools.
