PhD position in collaboration with Kommuneqarfik Sermersooq and Ilisimatusarfik

About the role

The position is a workplace‑funded PhD jointly supervised by the Municipality of Sermersooq and the University of Greenland. The research project “HELLE” aims to develop and implement a systematic method for incorporating the perspectives of children placed in care into the evaluation of placement quality and effectiveness. The appointment starts on 1 October 2026 and lasts three years.

Key responsibilities

• Design and test a methodological framework that captures the voices of children in care during placement assessments.
• Conduct empirical research, analyse data, and produce scientific publications and reports.
• Collaborate closely with municipal officials, university researchers, and local communities to ensure relevance and applicability of findings.

Required profile

• Relevant higher‑education degree (e.g., social sciences, anthropology, social work, health or related fields).
• Fluency in Kalaallisut, English and Danish.
• Interest or experience with Indigenous knowledge and community‑based research.
• Strong analytical abilities and capacity to work both independently and in interdisciplinary teams.
• Eligibility to enrol as a PhD student under Greenlandic regulations.
