About the role

The municipality of Sermersooq is seeking an experienced Department Leader for Pension and Housing Security within its Social Service division. The role starts on 1 November 2026 (or as soon as possible) and involves overseeing a team of roughly ten professionals who assist adult citizens with early retirement, old‑age pensions, housing security and personal allowances.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the department, ensuring high social‑professional quality of services.
• Manage personnel matters: performance reviews, wellbeing, work‑time planning, vacation scheduling, staff day structuring, time‑report approval and recruitment.
• Coordinate course offerings together with the leadership team.
• Ensure compliance with legislation on case handling in collaboration with the team leader.
• Oversee resource allocation, interdisciplinary collaboration and departmental meetings.
• Act as primary contact for requests, statements, complaints and financial accountability.
• Participate in acute tasks and ad‑hoc projects decided by senior management.

Required profile

• Social work education (e.g., social counselor or social worker).
• Significant experience in social‑service work.
• Leadership training or strong interest in leadership development.
• Detail‑oriented, quality‑focused and able to manage multiple priorities.
• Clear communicator, independent, responsible and service‑oriented.
• Flexible, resilient, proactive and collaborative.
